Component4 is built around a few core concepts that work together to help you plan, move, and complete your work. Understanding how these concepts relate makes it easier to organize your work at every level.

Component4 keeps administration and overhead on everyday tasks to a minimum while aiming for high interoperability across teams and between companies to decrease collaboration effort.

Activities

Activities are the fundamental unit of work. They represent any type of task, work item, issue, approval or request and share the same unified model.

An activity can be assigned to an inbox of a person or group, planned, prioritized, discussed, is linked to its creator and can be tagged with one or more topics.

There are only activities. No subtypes or complex objects. You can create activity templates to automate repetitive content or to force a unified layout.

Inboxes

A Component4 inbox is the container for all activities. Every user has a personal inbox. You can create generic inboxes for groups or roles and assign users to the inbox. You always assign activities to an inbox. They are the core element of how you move and delegate work around your team.
